Helicopteros Sanitarios was founded in Marbella by its current President and CEO, who at only 23 years old had the determination to establish a unique medical service that did not exist in Spain at the time.

Since 1988, Helicopteros Sanitarios has been dedicated to providing fast, effective medical assistance to our members — offering a complete GP service in the comfort of their own homes.

We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a fleet of mobile intensive care units, specialist doctors, and ambulances equipped with state-of-the-art medical and electro-medical technology.

Our History

More than 30 years caring
for your health

(1988)

Founded in Marbella

Helicopteros Sanitarios was founded in Marbella in 1988 to respond to a critical medical need along the N-340, where delays in emergency care cost lives.

With no equivalent public or private service available, it became the first organisation to offer rapid, life-saving medical assistance in the area.

(1990s)

24/7 Care

During the 1990s, the service expanded into a full 24/7 home doctor and emergency care model, combining GP visits at home with fast-response medical units.

A growing fleet of ambulances, medical vehicles and portable electro-medical equipment enabled doctors to treat members quickly wherever they were.

(2000–2010)

Growth & Excellence

The following years brought significant growth: a larger multidisciplinary team, ICU ambulances, advanced medical vehicles and a fully equipped medical helicopter.

The organisation has responded to over 1,196,435 medical emergencies and built an international presence across more than 15 countries.

(2017)

Our Hospital

In 2017, Helicopteros Sanitarios opened its own general hospital in Marbella.

Purpose-built to offer advanced medical technology, a highly qualified team and an exceptional patient experience, it became a key step in expanding the organisation’s ability to deliver comprehensive, high-quality healthcare.
